DISCUSSION FORUM


In a country as large (with a total area of 3,287,263 sq. km, and with the second largest population in the world, estimated to cross the one billion mark around the year 2000) and as diverse (18 official languages and 1600 minor languages and dialects) as India, it comes as no surprise that the problems facing the country are enormous and daunting.

If our objective had been to make an exhaustive list of problems which our country faces, then the task would have been never ending. Such a list would include unemployment, corruption, abuse of power, lack of affordable quality health care, militancy in trade unionism, poverty, standard of education, illiteracy, religious fanatism, communal strifes, strikes, oil deficit, ..... and yet would be nowhere near completion !!

Our objective is to take a specific problem, discuss and identify the root cause of the problem, and determine a feasible, implementable solution for the problem. To begin with, that would necessarily mean that we take up issues that are relatively small, that can be discussed in length and finding a solution that could be implemented by people like us.
